Real Smiles, Not Gas...
I think anyway. My mom (aka Max's Nona and the proclaimed "Big Boss") was upset that I posted a video of him fussing. So, to make up for it I give you happy baby with big smiles.

Happy Baby!
Hi everyone. I just wanted to post a few new pics while I had some quiet time. He is, again, enjoying a nap in his swing. I am so glad we decided to buy it... I did debate the need for it at first.
Max is eating more and more every day it seems like. He won't have another visit to the pediatrician for a few more weeks, but I wonder what he weighs at this point. He is a very happy and content baby and only fusses when he is hungry or maybe a little gassy. He has been sleeping for longer and longer stretches at night which has been great for Curtis (who still has to get up early for work) and for me even though we spend most of the day lounging around the house. I will have to work hard to get back into a school/work routine even though most of that will take place here at home.
Max is working hard to lift his head up. When he is laying on my chest he will often pop his head up and look around for a few seconds at a time. Laying him down for tummy time on his play mat is a little different though. He really has to work to lift his head, but he does a little more each day!
We get a lot of comments about how he looks more like a three month old baby instead of a 5 week old baby. I guess it has a lot to do with his size. However, I forget sometimes how young he really is just because he really looks at me as though he has it all figured out. I find myself in that precarious position of all moms, between the excitement of him growing up and conquering new milestones and wanting him to stay small and cuddly forever.
Here Max is on his play mat. We just started using it a couple of days ago. I'm sure he will really like it more as he gets a little older and can reach those toys!
Really working hard to lift his head up! This is accompanied by lots of snorts and grunts! I will try to get it on video next time.
My Happy Boy! Is it gas or a true smile? We have no idea at this point.

4 Week Update
So Max is 4 weeks old tomorrow. Thought it would be a good time (mainly because he is so nicely sleeping in his swing) to update the blog. He is growing like crazy! We have already eliminated several outfits because he has grown too long for them. So basically all of his newborn stuff as well as some of the smaller 0-3 months is no longer useable. That's OK, I find we stick to the same outfits most days anyway. He is such a little heater as well, so we cannot put him in anything fleecy because he sweats so much. He also sweats a lot when sleeping on me, which is what we spend most of our time doing... snuggling! He sleeps about 4 hours at a time at night right now, which has been very nice. As long as Curtis and I get into bed early, we don't feel too sleep deprived. He is a really great baby!
Most people ask how our menagerie has adapted to Max, and I have to say surprisingly well! The cats mostly ignore him and the dogs are just doing their normal thing. Alex (the parrot) has not started to mimic any crying, but he will repeat "It's OK" whenever Max is crying. So fingers crossed, but it appears that the transition went well. It will be another story when Max becomes mobile!
I start school back this week. I have one class that meets every third Tuesday and one that meets every Thursday night. Hopefully cutting back on the hours will help me not to be overwhelmed, but gives me enough to do that I stay somewhat sane. I will also be working from home for the grant that supports me financially. I am so blessed to be working on this grant and that they have been so flexible with my pregnancy and Max's arrival.
Other than that, not too much is happening here. Just some new pics for your viewing pleasure!
