Bubble Room

Last night we ate at a local restaurant here called the Bubble Room. It was a totally crazy place that was three stories tall with creepy toys sitting everywhere. I liked it OK, but I would not want to stay in that place overnight! Anyone see a Chucky movie lately? Blech. The waiters and waitresses all wore crazy hats and shirts and the food was name after movie titles. Curtis had the "Some like it hot" shrimp. The food was good and the desserts were better!

We tried green beans with Max last night for the first time and have finally found something he does NOT like. He was gagging soon after his first couple of bites. He doesn't get that from me... I love green beans.

After dinner we walked down to the beach to enjoy the sunset. It was so beautiful! We took a few pictures, but we are having professional portraits done Thursday at sunset so we should have some good ones to frame at home.

Florida 2010!

Hello everyone!

We are really enjoying ourselves here in Captiva so far. The beach here is beautiful and the water is very warm... just the way I like it. We also have a pool at the rental house and we have spent a good deal swimming in there as well. Max isn't too crazy about the beach. He doesn't seem to enjoy having sand all over his hands and feet (and everywhere else) but loves floating in the pool.
This beach has TONS of shells and we have had a great time looking and collecting a few. Bo found a great big conch that he was excited about, however the hermit crab occupying it was less thrilled! I'm not sure who was more surprised! We have to practically drag Bo away from the beach and we work just as hard getting Sadie out of the pool. They are having so much fun.

Beach bum in the making?

I think he prefers pools like his Mommy!
Sunsets are beautiful here.
Sadie out looking for some shells.
Oooops! How did this one get in here? Sorry to future Max!

Blah blah blah

Yadda, yadda, yadda. Nothing new here, just getting ready for our trip to Florida. I'm sure to have lots to post when we get back. For now, enjoy some new pics. I was horribly bored one day so Max and I took lots of photos and played with angles. We are so artsy-fartsy (more on the fartsy side most days!).

These sunglasses came free in his package of swim diapers. Score!

Cool dude!

Move over Michael Flatly... there's a new Lord of the Dance!

p.s. In the song it mentions that he will spit in your eye. Max would NEVER spit in your eye... drool maybe, but not spit!

Fun in the Tub!

Max really does enjoy bath time. This is the first time he has had toys in the bath with him. I think he may have liked it! Don't worry... this is G-rated.

My First Mother's Day

It still seems weird to me that I am a mother. I mean, I have this beautiful baby and so far no one else has come to claim him (other than grandparents!) so I guess I need to face the truth... I AM A MOMMY NOW!

I had a very nice day. Curtis made me chocolate Cheerios for breakfast (in his defense we slept late and were running late for church) and he bought me two new charms for my Max bracelet. Then we were off to church where I was given a carnation. After church we went out with some friends for lunch. Max napped twice in his crib (yay) for about 30-40 minutes each. Right now he is a total cat-napper. But last night he went to sleep in his crib and slept all night. Well, I say all night but he was up at 4 to eat but went right back down until 8:30 this morning. I am so happy and sad. It's amazing that motherhood often combined those two feelings at once, isn't it?

Thanks to everyone who called, texted or facebooked me yesterday. I am so blessed to have such wonderful family and friends in my life!

Here are some new pics although none of them are from yesterday. Enjoy!

Success?

Well, I hate to write this and possibly jinx it... but we are having a little success getting Max to nap in his crib. We moved the glider into the nursery so I can feed and rock him in there and he has napped in the crib today twice! The secret is to get him on his side and rub his back until he drifts off. I sure hope this keeps up so our summer babysitter can get him to sleep easily.

I'm not sure if I ever posted here or not, but Max rolled over for the first time about 2 1/2 weeks ago. He went from front to back just like a pro! Curtis and I were sort of stunned, then we started cheering him on. Since then no roll... until today that is! Today he rolled from back to front, again like he's been doing it forever. Hopefully when he starts doing it more regularly we will get it on film for everyone to see.

Max's eye is still giving him a few problems. The opthamologist tried to open the tear duct manually (basically this means he shoved his finger in Max's eye) and it seemed to work for a short time. We followed this with antibiotic/steroid drops which made the "laziness" disappear... so we now know what is causing the lazy eye. However, the duct may have closed back up. The opthamologist told us we can manually open it again but I am reluctant to stick my finger that deep in his eye. If we don't get it open before he is 8 months, then we have to have the duct flushed open. Ugh!

Veggies are going well. We have tried (yes we, I try them too) carrots and peas so far. He still spits quite a bit out but every once in a while he will swallow a good bite. We read that at this stage his nutrition is still from the formula, but we are just introducing foods now so he will be a good eater later. I am not producing much breastmilk these days which is sad for me, I wasn't quite ready to give that up. It makes me realize how much he's grown. Sigh!

"Bring on the real food!"

"This is what all the fuss is about? Eh, I can take it or leave it."

"Peas were just OK too."

"But I still prefer this!"

Max is showing off his flexibility and his Fuzzi Bunz.

First Food!

Spring Semester is Done!

Yay! I am done with classes... until June 5th anyway. This was a good semester for me in that the courses were not too stressful so I was able to handle Mommy-hood and school. Next fall will really be a challenge though. I will be back to three courses and I've heard that two of them give lots of reading assignments. Ugh! Well I won't worry about that now... now is summer!

We have had a little progress on the solid food front. We started actual food, carrots, last Tuesday and he seems to like that better than the rice cereal. I still don't know how much he actually swallows, but he seems to spit out a little less than we put in.

Max does seem to be in the beginning stages of teething. He is a little extra fussy at nap time and is constantly rubbing his gums on anything he can get into his mouth (see the video Chin Monster for proof!). We have a bumpy pacifier that I will rub over his gums for relief and that seems to work OK. Lots of folks have been giving me advice about how to get through this period, some good and some I would never try!

He is still sleeping in bed with us, and I'm OK with that for now. He really doesn't wiggle around too much so we all rest easy this way. We are still spending time every day in the nursery playing and reading and I do lay him in his crib for short periods. I still hope that he will start to at least nap in his crib so that our summer babysitter doesn't have to hold him every second she is here with him.

Speaking of babysitters, I am interviewing a few next week and I think we will have no problem finding a good one. We just need somebody here for 3-4 hours a day, four days a week for the month of June. I think this will help ease into leaving him in the care of someone else, which is good because camp is coming soon!

Take care and enjoy listening to Max "talk". I sure do!

No time for updates!

I am so sorry that it has been a while since I posted any new photos. The semester is winding down this week so I have been ever so busy with projects and stuff. Here are a few new photos to tide you over until next week!

Oh how time flies...

Our Tuesday night dinner/walking group. Lots of fun!

Michaela was totally chilling on our walk with her foot up!
His first time to be bathed in the duck. He outgrew the washpod.
